Favourites Foiled In Tie Silk Second Leg
It wasn’t a good night for the favourites in Monday’s second leg of the Tie Silk Series at Woodbine Racetrack, as You Rock My World and Brewmaster played the role of the spoiler in their respective $15,000 divisions.
You Rock My World turned a two-hole trip into a 1:57 score at odds of 8-1 in the first division for the duo of driver Sylvain Filion and trainer Keith Jones. The three-year-old son of Muscle Mass-Disco Inferno tracked the tempo-setting Devries Hanover through splits of :27.3, :58.3 and 1:28.1 before angling out of the pocket and using a :28.2 closing quarter to win by a half-length margin. Devries Hanover was second, with Just Make Believe taking home third prize.
Doug McCarthy of Holland Landing, ON owns the gelding, who won for the first time in 13 lifetime starts. The $7,500 payday boosted his bankroll to $27,490.
Brewmaster erupted for a 45-1 upset in the second division thanks in large part to some heads-up rating by driver Anthony MacDonald. He got away second with the three-year-old son of Glidemaster-Dance Girl Dance, but he had him on the move in the second quarter. He led the field through panels of :59.3 and 1:29.3 before using a :28.3 closing quarter to secure the narrow win over the 1-5 favourite, Bloodstockshalltab. Muscle On Broadway was third.
Blair Burgess trains the colt for his father, Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Famer Robert Burgess, and his wife, Karin Olsson Burgess. It was the sophomore’s third win of the season, and the lion’s share of the purse bumped his lifetime earnings to $36,340.
