Camythical Clicks In London Preferred

The trip was tough but the end result was quite profitable for Camythical, who turned a first-over journey into a narrow victory in Monday’s featured $13,200 Preferred Handicap at The Raceway at The Western Fair District.

Camythical got away fourth in the early going for trainer/driver Dan Megens, who watched Royal Outlook and M K G battle to the quarter pole in a :27-second clip. Royal Outlook broke a hopple and rolled off stride, which left the lead to M K G. He took the field through middle panels of :57 and 1:25.4, with Camythical grinding away from first-over. Camythical kicked home in :28.4 to win by a quarter of a length over Dreamfair Kovu, with race favourite Mach It Big finishing third. The mile was clocked in 1:54.4.

Sent off at odds of 6-1, Camythical won for the second time this year and for the 13th time in his career. Megens shares ownership on the eight-year-old son of Cambest-Loveandtenderness with Jan Van Nest of Hamilton, ON. The pacer has banked $161,472 to date.

Apaches Cam extended his winning streak to four-in-a-row thanks to his 1:56 score in the $8,400 Preferred-2 for the tandem of driver Alfie Carroll and owner/trainer Murray Pepper. The seven-year-old son of Apaches Fame-Cams Ski Bunny led the field through fractions of :28.1, :58 and 1:26.3 before finishing off his foes with a :29.2 closing quarter. He won by 1-3/4 lengths over Kendal Gustav, with Button Up finishing third.

The victory was the fifth of the season for Apaches Cam, who is now a seven-time winner in his career. He’s managed to stash away more than $38,000 in lifetime earnings.

The Monday program also saw a set of $5,600 Preferred-3 affairs go postward, with Major Wager (1:55.3 – tr/dr Brad Fritz) and General Manager (1:55.3 – Trevor Henry/Paul Mairs).
