I struggled a great deal with finding a theme to write about this month; the State of the Industry edition. To continue writing inspirationally flies in the face of what many members of our industry are suffering through. The uncertainty and the fear continue to be very real. Except for a few fortunate regions within Canada, the harness racing industry is in decline.

However, I firmly believe that things will improve. To what extent, I cannot say. One thing’s for certain, it cannot get worse. The industry keeps falling out of the spotlight. For that reason, Standardbred Canada needs to continue improving on government relations where it can. Would having solid government relations with Ontario’s Government have changed anything? Probably not. But we cannot keep letting history repeat itself without taking action.

This letter is short because there is no point in droning on. Now is not the time to give up. Those of us who care about this industry and see its true value need to keep fighting for that.

I guess this turned out somewhat inspirational in the end. Its important to realize that things will change. We must focus all our energy on fighting for this industry.
