Harrington Raceway's 2013 Meet Begins
Harrington Raceway’s 2013 meet commenced Sunday with an 11-race program. A large crowd filled the grandstand on an unseasonably cool spring evening.
Presentations were made to 2012 leading driver Ross Wolfenden, who claimed his third consecutive driving title in 2012 and to co-leading trainers, brothers Wayne and Les Givens. The 2012 trainer deadlock was the first ever tie atop the trainer standings at Harrington. Presentations were previously scheduled for the last night of racing in 2012, before Hurricane Sandy washed away that program.
Wayne Givens picked up where he left off last season, when he won the program’s first two races, both driven by Allan Davis.
William and Barbara Kinsey’s To Much Fun ($5.20, Bob Kinsey Jr.) won the “Ned Galentine Memorial,” slated sixth on the program, in 1:55. Galentine was a long time racing official and horseman who passed away in 2012.
Crissman Inc., Alex Hawes and Nicky Ratledge’s Bad Rusty ($10, Tony Morgan) was the card’s fastest winner with a 1:54.1 win in the fourth race. Trained by co-owner Hawes, it was his third win of the year and first off a claim.
Racing will continue on a Sunday through Thursday schedule.
