Bringing Racing To Casino Players

Imagine being right up alongside the winner's circle while physically playing a video lottery terminal at the same time.

According to a report by ABC affiliate News Channel 5, the rather unique setup will be offered at Thistledown raceway, Cleveland, Ohio's thoroughbred racetrack which will offer both live horse racing and VLT play starting today (Friday, April 19).

Racing has long tried to get traditional casino punters to switch over to race handicapping, and the proximity of the particular gaming section at Thistledown will seemingly do just that.

As the News Channel 5 article explains, the outdoor gaming area will allow smoking, as it is an 'open-air' area.

In addition to being located right up beside the winner's circle, the open-air gaming section is also right outside the racino's 'Slush' bar.

Besides highlighting the unique gaming area, the report also discusses the positive impact that the expanded gaming will have on Thistledown's on-track product.

The article also explains how the track is currently in the midst of negotiations with the Ohio Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, which are currently severely impacting the track's ability to send out its simulcasting signal for wagering.
