Prince of Wales Stakes On A Tuesday?
According to a report, one of Canada's major stakes events could be raced on a weeknight this year instead of its regular weekend slot.
An article by niagarathisweek.com regarding the Fort Erie Race Track's 2013 season of live racing explains that the Prince of Wales Stakes, the second jewel in Canada's Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing, could be taking place on a Tuesday this year.
The report states that the Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium, which operates live racing at the historic border oval, has applied to the move the race to July 30.
The article states that one of the FELRC's reasons for wanting to move the race from its traditional Sunday running to midweek is because it would not be competing with other events taking place on the weekend, and thus it would be able to possibly draw more wagering dollars into the race's pari-mutuel pool.
A final decision regarding the date of the 2013 Prince of Wales Stakes is expected to be made by the end of April.
The article also discusses the possibility of the Fort Erie Race Track playing host to live quarter-horse racing this year.
