Contest, Training News From Hanover

Hanover Raceway recently finished up its early-bird spring handicapping contest, and congratulations are in order for Jim Stewart and Steve Fudge of Priceville, Ont.

The duo teamed up as team 'Cheesie' and bankrolled $261.20 over the six weeks of the contest, besting the other 14 teams in the tournament. The winners took home the grand prize of two 50-inch Sony televisions, courtesy of HDTV Electronics, Hanover Raceway and OLG Slots at Hanover.

Hanover Raceway would like to thank all those who participated in the handicapping contest and have announced plans for a survivor format contest coming up later in the racing season which will be sponsored by Country 93. This is one of the ways the Grey County track will look to fill the grandstands this summer, as Hanover Raceway hopes to continue providing live harness racing for years to come for all the fans.

Opening Day at Hanover is Saturday, May 4, with live racing beginning at 7:15 p.m. Hanover Raceway will be open for outside training on Saturday, April 20, which is later than most years due to poor weather conditions.

“We’re in full gear now that the snow has subsided, and we have scheduled our first qualifiers for the morning on Opening Day," noted Hanover raceway General Manager Gord Dougan. "Normally, we would qualify a week before then, but the weather didn’t allow us to do that this year."

Qualifying sessions will be held at 11:00 a.m. for the first two Saturday race cards, before moving them back to 6:00 p.m. on May 18.
