Shaint To Shabby Upsets In Miss Windfall
Shaint To Shabby, dismissed at 16-1, was an upset winner in Tuesday’s $15,000 Miss Windfall Series final for three-and-four year old, Indiana sired fillies and mares at Hoosier Park.
Roger Cullipher piloted the three-year-old filly to a 1:56.1 triumph for her second win in three starts, and in the process she sent her career bankroll over $10,000.
The heavily favoured Mystic Karissa, seeking her fifth straight victory this year, got away poorly in sixth from post nine. Long shot GMs Best Ann left the gate alertly and reached the front through the opening quarter time in :27.4. Starting from post eight, Cullipher placed Shaint To Shabby fifth along the rail and waited patiently to make a move.
GMs Best Ann yielded the lead to Fritzie Chic down the backside through the half-mile time in :58.2. Mystic Karissa was the first to take aim at the leader as she tipped to the outer flow approaching the final turn. Fritzie Chic continued to lead the field of ten to the three-quarter mark in 1:27.4 as she braced herself for the cavalry charge to the wire.
As the field turned for home, Fritzie Chic began to tire on the front as the rest of the field closed in quickly. Shaint To Shabby rallied from the outer flow in fifth and used a :27.4 closing quarter to reach the wire one length in front of the field. Always As Fast was widest of all in the final strides and marched home from well off the pace to finish a close second. Annie Sez paced evenly to get the third-place finish. Shaint To Shabby returned $34.40 to her backers for the victory.
“I thought she raced good last week for only her second lifetime start,” Cullipher noted. “She has raced great both times but we were able to get a better trip tonight and it worked out for us. She got a little sore last year at two so we put her up for the year, but she has always been a nice filly. She trained down great all winter and the way she has raced here in her first few starts, I think she will develop in to a really nice filly.”
Sired by Arts Chip, Shaint To Shabby is owned, trained and bred by Roger Cullipher of Calvert City, KY. The three-year-old filly, who was unraced at two, has finished in the money in all three of her lifetime starts.
