Second Delaware Horse Positive For EHV-1?

Delaware State veterinarian Dr. Heather Hirst has been quoted as saying that a second case of equine herpesvirus-1 is suspected in an area standardbred.

According to a report by delawareonline.com, the horse was not at the same facility where Tintabella N tested positive and was later euthanized due to the virus.

Dr. Hirst declined to say specifically where the second horse is located, but did state that the situation is "a suspected case of equine herpesvirus-1 of the neurologic family." The report states that, at this point, it is only certain that the horse did come down with a fever.

"This could be from a cold or many other possible things, but we are not taking any chances," Delaware Harness Racing executive director Hugh Gallagher was quoted as saying.
