On Thursday, April 4, the Woodbine Entertainment Group announced that 59 horses have been nominated to the 30th edition of the $1 million Pepsi North America Cup, Canada’s richest harness racing event.

The one-mile pace for three-year-olds, which will take place at Mohawk Racetrack, is scheduled for Saturday, June 15.

Headlining the 2013 crop of nominees is Captaintreacherous (eight wins and career earnings of $911,687), champion two-year-old in both Canada and the United States last year for trainer Tony Alagna.

The bay son of 2008 Pepsi North America Cup champion Somebeachsomewhere captured both the Metro Pace at Mohawk and the Woodrow Wilson at the Meadowlands Racetrack before finishing third in the Breeders Crown at Woodbine Racetrack.

Rockin Amadeus, who delivered the ‘Crown’ upset, and Wake Up Peter, who finished second in the race, are also being pointed to the ‘Cup.’

Others named to the race that may be noted on a Top 10 list of contenders include Odds On Equuleus and Apprentice Hanover.

Two sustaining payments for the race are due on April 15 and May 15.

The Pepsi North America Cup eliminations, worth $50,000 each, are scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 8 at Mohawk.
