Driving Miss Deo Wins London Feature
Classy Lane Rose did all the work but Driving Miss Deo got all the glory in Tuesday’s featured $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred at The Raceway at The Western Fair District.
The public’s top choice, Classy Lane Rose, sprinted to the lead from the pole position and supplied the field with fractions of :28, :57.4 and 1:27.1 while being stalked by the pocket-sitting Driving Miss Deo. J.R. Plante found clearance for Driving Miss Deo in the late stages of the mile and the mare used a :29.2 closing quarter to win by a neck over Classy Lane Rose in 1:56.4. Shes A Maniac took home the show dough.
Sent off at odds of 8-1, Driving Miss Deo won for the second time this season and for the seventh time in her career. The career winner of $120,911, who is trained by Dan Creighton, is owned by Putnam Training Centre Ltd of Mossley, ON.
In the very next race – the $8,400 Preferred 2 for Fillies & Mares - Jusluky Bobbi J survived a first-over journey en route to posting a 1:57.1 triumph for driver Nick Steward. The six-year-old daughter of As Promised-Armbro Cocktail wore down the pacesetting Roca Rei around the final turn before using a :30-second closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Rachel Olivia. Even-money favourite Roca Rei was third.
Trainer Jason McGinnis of Ancaster shares ownership on the mare with Jeff Wellwood of Toronto, ON, and together they’ve watched the 21-time winner hit the board in each of her last six assignments. She’s banked close to $13,000 this year and more than $173,000 to date.
