St. Pierre Takes Five At Rideau
Driver Denis St. Pierre was the leading winner at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, making five trips to the winner's circle throughout the night.
With his Sunday victories pushing his local 2013 total to 46, St. Pierre moved within seven wins of Ottawa's season leader, John MacDonald.
St. Pierre began his winning crusade in the fourth dash with the lightly raced five-year-old pacing mare Prestige ($7.60), who was making her first start in over a year for trainer Eric Valiquette.
The hot-handed reinsman also clicked with a pair of Corey Johnson trainees. Pacer Peenie ($3.30) won the seventh and veteran trotter Sugar Valley Alley ($5) prevailed in the ninth for the duo.
St. Pierre later went back-to-back in the 13th and 14th races with a pair of repeating mares. Pacer Gemini Seelster ($10.20) prevailed by a nose for Gerard Vaillancourt and Out Of The Hat ($5.10) trotted to a three-quarter length score for John MacMillan to complete his big night.
One of Canada's top 10 percentage drivers this year with a 0.337 UDRS, St. Pierre has recorded 46 wins, 34 seconds and 21 thirds in 213 starts so far in 2013.
