Your Favourite Horse Names

Harness racing participants share some of their favourite names for racehorses in this week's Standardbred Canada video feature -- the ones that were sentimental, powerful or just good for a laugh.

What's your favourite horse name?

Comments

MANY YEARS AGO KEITH CLARK HAD A WHITE FACED HORSE CALLED IDNO...THE ANNOUNCER WOULD SAY AND ON THE OUTSIDE I-DUN-NO.

Two of my brothers favourite Horseman are Jody Jamieson and Blair Burgess so one of his favourite horse names is "Tell All". Another favourite is the horse Cam Fella beat in his final race December 10, 1983 called " Monkey Wrench". Also David Tingley had a horse we both liked called "Peaceful Way".

A couple of horses names that I really liked from Years ago were a Pat Crowe trainee that ran 2nd to ONTHEROADAGAIN at Confederation Cup called "Greener Pastures". And another was a Tony Kerwood driven horse that Earl Lennox cued a phrase that I thought was great was " Out of the east end parking lot here comes Darryl's Rip". And of course there's SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE And "The Pacing Machine Cam Fella"

Hoof Hearted, not a great horse, but a great name. Banker Fretz always got the call,"Here comes the Banker!!!!". What is a Pink Kangaroo......hmmmm??

I find it remarkable that with our industry basically on life support, with perhaps a month left o save it, the most commented article on this site is Favorite Horse Names.

Here's one for consideration......Dr. Ballard.

Cunning Stunt I think Alvin Hamilton raced this one. Hands down winner winner chicken dinner

Piston Broke; GG Garney (produced the nickname "GG" for me)

Back in the 80's , the late Tom Miller, had a pretty good trotting mare named Goldie Buckshot. After a start in nw 1...she moved up, week by week , to win the winners over....beating the boys . The only mare to beat her...an Armbro mare won the Breeders Crown that year..Tom named the babies....
She was bred to Bridger......Golden Gate Bridge..
and A Go Go Lauxmont.....GO GO Goldie

Sadly...none of them made the races

How good was the mare...ask Presiding Judge Tom Miller...he drove her to all her wins

I recall driving a red roan in the 80's named Sweet Daddy Joe. Named after a wrestler if I recall correctly.

This is fun as great horses always had great names- Moni Maker, Une De Mai, Grades Singing, Peace Corps, Buck I ST Pat.

Some of my fave's are, Doobie Time, Pray For Me Roger, Take A Look, Barely Visible, Give It Up, Quite A Sensation, Air Force One, Just Bold, Turbo Fired, Mr Joe Kool, Ball And Chain, Jimmy The Greek, Sign Of The Hawk, Givemewhatineed, OJ Lies, Idhavnamedherdifferent(I'm not sure of the spelling.)

From the east end parking lot "The Tease" is roaringgggggggggggggggggggg up. (The good old days of Greenwood)

What about everyone's LIFETIME DREAM, great name and a great mare

Town Drunk

The first horse I had was named One Bullet Barney, named after Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show. Steve Massie

Hey you guys,

How could you forget Cameltoe?
Some of my favourites are: a horse Johnny Mac raced, Shes In Our Soul, Lil Mel Purvis and Dirty Sanchez.

My wife just got to name her first foal a couple years ago. The dam we owned was I'myourbiggestfan but we called her "Fanny." The sire was Cantab Hall. She named the foal Haul'nfanny. I love to hear the announcer when Haul'nfanny is on the move down the stretch!

I remember a horse called psssst and hearing Frank Salive saying pissed. Next time he had to spell p s s t. Guess he got heck for that first one.

LOL I remember laughing so much when they would announce No Sex Please but what made it better was it could win and win big.

Horses and the people that name them have more personality than anything in a casino does. Support horse racing. Save horse racing. I can't imagine a world without it.

One of the funniest things I remember listening to, was the call of the stretch drive in a race (BIG ONE) from Sweden where No Sex Please was involved.

His name was the only English thing spoken & as he was getting closer & closer the announcer was so animated with the repeated call of "No Sex Please".

It was a classic & one of the fondest memories I have of a race call.

One name I used to think was a great name for a horse, Geartogear. Also, Eaton Road Kill was a different name and one that was just plain funny Hare Breath Harry.

One horse, that raced in NJ, years ago is named No Vyagra Needed. Also, love the name Carrots Only.....

Thank you for listening.

On my blog I've posted a video from the BBC that also deals with favourite horse names. Check it out here after finished with the SC video feature above.
