Six More At Dover For Callahan
Corey Callahan, the leading dash-winning driver in North America in 2013, enjoyed another productive Tuesday at Dover Downs thanks to a six-win performance on the 15-race card.
He clicked in the opener with the Dylan Davis-trained Cantabulous (1:55.4 - $2.60) and returned to victory lane in Race 5 with Picard (1:56.1 - $5.80) for trainer Nick Callahan.
He posted back-to-back wins in Races 9 and 10 with the Kay Gannon-conditioned Dusty Diamond (1:57.2 - $5.40) and Up Town Watts (1:53.4 - $3.80) for trainer Kyle Moore before a driving away tally in Race 13 with the John Wilkerson-trained U B (1:56.3 - $3.60). The icing on Callahan’s cake came in Race 14 with Wesmokempeacepipe (1:55.2 - $4.00) for trainer Justin Brenneman.
Callahan, a resident of Queenstown, MD, has racked up 126 wins this season in addition to purse earnings in excess of $1.1 million. The career winner of 2,912 races is closing in on lifetime earnings of $36 million.
Honourable mention goes to driver Ross Wolfenden for his four-win performance on Tuesday’s card. The veteran teamster got the job done with Prospect Of Whitby (1:54.4 - $4.00), Tara Micket (1:54.2 - $4.40), Albert Chief A (1:53.2 - $3.00) and Whatashowoff (1:56 - $32.00).
