Ontario-Bred Wins Buffalo Open
Machman, a four-year-old gelding sired by Mach Three, won the $11,000 Open Pace at Buffalo Raceway Saturday night (February 16).
The win was the fourth in five attempts this year for Machman, whose 1:56 winning time established a new season’s mark.
Machman ($6.80), driven by Billy Dobson, settled in second as the favourite and eventual third-place finisher Cam Patch (Dan Noble) cut all the fractions in the race (:28.1, :58.1, and 1:27). Getting a perfect pocket trip for most of the mile, Machman unleashed a :28.4 last quarter-mile, which put him one and a half lengths ahead of second-place finisher Goochs Bad Boy (John Cummings Jr.) at the wire.
Trained by John Mungillo and owned by Arrhythmic LLC of West Seneca, New York, the $5,500 share of the winning purse put Machman’s seasonal earnings at $15,284 and lifetime earnings at $69,439.
