UPDATED: Friday Racing Cancellations
In addition to other racetrack cancellation announcements, all three Ontario tracks racing on Friday night - Flamboro Downs, The Raceway at Western Fair District and Woodbine Racetrack - have announced that they have cancelled their scheduled cards of live racing due to the winter storm that is blanketing southwestern Ontario. Check back with this notice for details, as Trot Insider will be updating it as announcement come in.
The Raceway at Western Fair District announced at 1:10 p.m. that the track was cancelling its Friday card. According to WFD, snow continues to fall in London while motorists in the area are being advised to stay off the roads.
Flamboro’s cancellation of its Friday live card comes after it preemptively closed its half-mile oval for Friday-morning training (the Western Fair District had also taken preemptive measures in cancelling its scheduled Friday qualifying session).
Also, please note that Standardbred Canada’s head office in Mississauga, Ont. is closed Friday due to the snowstorm, however, the majority of services will still be available for members. For complete information, click here.
South of the border, both the Meadowlands Racetrack and Yonkers Raceway have announced that they have cancelled their scheduled Friday live-racing and simulcasting programs. Yonkers will make a decision regarding the status of Saturday, Feb. 9 live racing and evening simulcasting Saturday morning. With Aqueduct having already cancelled its Saturday program, Yonkers is not open for Saturday afternoon simulcasting. Also note that Empire City casino has altered its hours to close Friday evening at 8 p.m. and re-open Saturday at 12 noon.
Buffalo Raceway has also announced that it has moved its scheduled Friday qualifying session to Saturday, February 9 at 5:00 p.m. Buffalo is still planning on heading postward with its Friday night, 13-race pari-mutuel card that is scheduled to kick off at 6:40 p.m.
