E W Fisher Prevails In WEG Preferred
The trip was tough but the end result was sweet for E W Fisher, who survived a first-over journey to take home the lion’s share of the purse in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Racetrack.
E W Fisher got away fifth while Frenchfrysnvinegar and Watkins battled to the quarter pole in :27.2. Watkins cleared to the top and proceeded to lead the field through middle panels of :56.4 and 1:25.3. E W Fisher commenced a first-over rally at the half, and he was at the saddle pad of the leader as the field arrived at the top of the stretch. E W Fisher dug in and used a :29-second final frame to win by half a length over the hard-closing Zeus Lightning. Watkins was a lapped-on third in the eight-horse affair.
Sent off at odds of 9-2, E W Fisher improved this year’s record to 2-0-1 from five trips to the track for trainer/driver Rick Zeron. The six-year-old son of Fool Me Not-La Delicatesse, who is owned by Lise Lang of Port Perry, ON and Saul Mendelson of Montreal, QC, is now a 13-time winner who boasts purse earnings in excess of $174,000.
