Machal Jackson Breaks, Wins Preferred
Not even an early break in stride could keep Machal Jackson from taking home the top prize in Monday’s $13,200 Preferred Handicap at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
The five-year-old son of Mach Three-Warrawee Cammy made a brief break when sitting fourth on the rail as the field moved across the backstretch, but he quickly regained his composure for driver J. R. Plante before making a bid for the lead. Button Up put up the opening quarter of :28.2 before giving way to Machal Jackson who cleared and proceeded to thrown down middle splits of :57.4 and 1:26.1. A :29-second final quarter was more than enough for the gelding to win by 6-1/4 lengths over Royal Outlook in 1:55.1. Rollem Up rounded out the Triactor ticket.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Machal Jackson picked up his first win of the season and the 13th of his career for owners Brenda Selwyn Waxman of Dundas and Yin Yee Wong of Oakville, ON. Isaac Waxman trains the OSS graduate who now boasts a career cash stash of $462,820.
