Meadows Preferred To Red Star Hottie
Blanked in her first three 2013 starts, Red Star Hottie ended her uncharacteristic dry spell when she shot the Lightning Lane to capture Monday afternoon’s $18,000 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
A career winner of $613,850, Red Star Hottie suffered several narrow losses this year before her Monday breakthrough for Dave Palone, who gave her a comfortable pocket trip behind Tremor Hanover. She blew by late to triumph in 1:53.4 over a snow-covered surface, a length better than the rallying Do Me Honor, who saw her three-race win streak snapped. Tremor Hanover saved show.
Ron Burke trains Red Star Hottie, an eight-year-old daughter of As Promised-Whitehorse Fever, for Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.
Palone drove four winners on the 15-race card — shortened by one due to the cancellation of the final event — and Mike Wilder three. With his victory in the second race behind Pounce K, Wilder surpassed $40 million in career purses.
