Golden Receiver Continues Presidential Reign
Golden Receiver continues to leave the fans at the Meadowlands Racetrack in awe. Saturday night marked his 18th sub-1:50 win in his tremendous career.
Golden Receiver took a seemingly effortless tour of the East Rutherford, New Jersey oval in 1:48.4 for driver Tim Tetrick and trainer Mark Harder. Modern Legend, owned by St. Catharines, Ontario's Dave Drew, followed two and a half lengths behind in second off a pocket trip while longshot Malak Uswaad N finished third.
The eight-year-old son of Village Jove, who holds the harness racing record for most sub-1:50 wins, is owned by New York's Our Horse Cents Stables and breeder Nina Simmonds.
Next Saturday he will headline the Presidential Series final in his quest for a second consecutive triumph in the event. The Presidential joins the Super Bowl and Clyde Hirt finals as part of a power-packed stakes final card.
The stars of the driving colony were Dave Miller and Simon Allard. Miller continues his torrid streak to start the meet, while Allard put forth a great effort on the night, both winning three races. Allard told Bob “Hollywood” Heyden in a back-paddock interview that he “plans on sticking around at The Meadowlands more this year,” as it is a “great place to drive.” Two of Allard’s wins came while teaming up with brother/trainer Rene Allard.
At the betting windows, the results were staggering. The total all sources handle of $3,326,373 carried an additional $1,044,086 when compared to the same Saturday last year. That marked a remarkable 46 per cent increase over that same day one year ago. In addition, the on-track handle of $409,531 was an increase of 48 per cent over the on track handle from one year ago.
Racing resumes on Thursday with first post time at 7:15 p.m., followed by the Friday program and the stakes final packed card on Saturday.
