Big Bang Theory Tops Open Mares
Big Bang Theory stepped out of the claiming ranks and up to the Fillies & Mares Open level for the first time on Friday night at Northlands Park and dominated her foes every step of the way.
The five-year-old daughter of As Promised has now put together back-to-back 1:56.2 career-best winning efforts at the Edmonton oval for trainer, driver and co-owner Gerry Hudon.
Big Bang Theory blasted off the gate from the outside post six in the $9,900 feature race and cruised through panels of :28, :58.4, and 1:27.3 before using a :28.4 final quarter over the 'good' surface to seal the deal. Callmeaftermdnight (Philip Giesbrecht) rallied home off cover to place, one length behind, while pocket-sitter Baby You Save Me (Paul Davies) settled for third.
Monica Hudon of Edmonton and R. Lynn Kowalevsky of Airdrie, Alta. also share ownership of the winning mare, who has won 16 races lifetime while banking $77,647 in purses.
Big Bang Theory paid $12.30 to win.
