Waiting On A Woman Conquers Florida
Waiting On A Woman teamed up with driver Kevin Wallis to score a wire-to-wire win in 1:54.4 in Pompano Park’s $11,000 Open 1 Trot on Wednesday night at Pompano Park.
The five-year-old gelded son of Northern Bailey rocketed out of the gate, carded an opening panel of :27.1, and proceeded to clock fractions of :56 and 1:25 before hitting the wire a winner by a diminishing length over Blushing Hanover (Mickey McNichol) with Shes All In (Rick Plano) third. Prairie Big John was fourth and the lukewarm favorite, Andover America, making his pari-mutuel first start in five weeks, fifth.
Waiting On A Woman is now three-for-three in 2013 and has continually moved up the ladder to now reign supreme in the division for now.
Owned by New Jennaration of North Palm Beach, Florida and trained by Travis Kolaczynski, the winner now sports a lifetime bankroll of $87,956--$12,750 of that in the first 16 days of the new year.
Driver Kevin Wallis, in a post race interview, said, “Travis (trainer Kolaczynski) said this horse likes to be in on the action early and he showed that tonight. His past couple of lines showed opening quarters of :28 and a piece so I was a bit concerned when he went :27.1 for that opening quarter. But he seemed to relax a bit and, though he might have been a bit weary near the wire, he was still trying.”
The Open 2 Trot went to Celebrity Legacy for Bruce Ranger in a lifetime best 1:54.3.
The seven-year-old son of Windsongs Legacy took command as the gate opened and clocked panels of :27.4, :57.3 and 1:26 before romping home in :28.3 to hit the wire three-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Ill Tell You What, driven by Dave Ingraham. Good Luck Penny rallied in the lane for Jason Dillander to finish third while Super Lotto and Spring Goal captured the final two checks.
The win, Celebrity Legacy’s 13th lifetime, pushed his career bounty over the $200,000 mark. He’s owned by trainer Stewart Nemiro, who had an owner-trainer double on Wednesday night when his $4,000 claiming pacer, Base Camp, scored a handy win for Bruce Ranger in 1:54.4.
