Updated: Multi-Horse Accident In London
Three horses failed to finish Tuesday’s sixth race at The Raceway at the Western Fair District as a result of a chain reaction accident which occurred as the field entered the backstretch for the first time.
Pink Sheet, who was sitting in the two-hole for driver Nick Boyd as the field entered the backstretch, made a sudden break in stride and Champagne N January, who was right behind that foe with Tyler Borth at the lines, collided with the breaker and fell. Both drivers were dumped from their bikes.
Pink Sheet galloped around the track before being apprehended. Notha Load, who was racing on the rail behind those two horses, avoided colliding into Champagne N January thanks to some heads up driving by Scott Wray. He brought his mare to a standstill to avoid the fallen horse and unseated drivers.
Officials at The Raceway told Trot Insider driver Nick Boyd injured his leg in the accident and was going to Guelph Hospital to have it looked at. Tyler Borth was uninjured despite being dumped from the bike, and the horses involved only suffered cuts and scrapes.
Trot Insider has learned that after visiting the hospital, Boyd's x-rays came back negative. He was diagnosed with a sprained ankle, a deep bone bruise to his right calf and a slight concussion.
