Hirt Series Begins, Handle Still Soaring
The wet weather couldn’t dampen the mood at Meadowlands Racetrack this Friday night. On the racetrack the story was driver Dave Miller, who won five of 11 races on the card, including two $16,000 divisions of the Clyde Hirt Series.
Miller has now won eight races in the last two nights.
In the Clyde Hirt, a pair of favourites put on a show with One Through Ten, one of Miller’s five wins, and Holdingallthecards, driven by Tim Tetrick, on a collision course in the final as both scored impressive victories. One Through Ten held off a game Ethan Hanover in a quick 1:52.2 mile on a track rated sloppy, while Holdingallthecards dominated his division in a sharp 1:52.
In other Clyde Hirt action, Bestjetyet scored in the first division for Meadowlands newcomer Eric Carlson in 1:52.4, while Shaws Creek Bluff and Miller fended off Mr Dennis in 1:54 in the final division.
The wagering dollars came pouring through the windows at an even stronger rate than the falling rain. The total handle for the 11-race Friday card was $2,862,831. That total marked a staggering 30 per cent increase from the same Friday in 2012. Fresh off the heels of a Saturday that produced a $3.5 million handle last week, the excitement is building into a power-packed 13-race program Saturday night, featuring two divisions of the first round of the Presidential Series. Post time is set for 7:15 p.m.
