Stakes & Preferreds At Meadowlands
Gallantly and Autumn Escapade prevailed in their respective Charles Singer Memorial divisions while Go On BB and Sauce Two K took the two Preferred events, which highlighted Friday night's card at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
In the second leg of the $25,000 Charles Singer Memorial for three-year-old trotters, Gallantly coasted to victory with Tim Tetrick in the bike.
Fresh off a win in the first leg, the son of Varenne rallied from off the pace to score in 1:54.4.
Pleasecreditboston (Eric Goodell) was the pacesetter leading the field to the first quarter station in :27.3 where Gallantly tipped out from sixth behind the first over challenger, Awesome Wonder (Ron Pierce), who went off stride taking himself out of the running. The fan favourite advanced on the outside through middle panels of :57.1 and 1:26.2 before using a :28.2 final quarter effort to prevail by five lengths.
First Notable Chip (Brian Sears) finished second and L F Gran Falls (Andy Miller) was third.
Ross Croghan trains the winner of five races and over $180,000 for owner Jerry Silva of Long Beach, New York.
Autumn Escapade and driver Dave Miller also rallied from off the pace to take the second Charles Singer division in 1:55.1.
Jon Win (Andy Miller) was the fastest off the gate, but longshot Zitomira (Jacqueline Ingrassia) cleared the front after the first quarter in :28.3. Autumn Escapade, a daughter of Victory Sam, tipped out from fourth as the field rolled past the half in :57. The Misty Miller pupil advanced on the pacesetter and the duo battled on the front to three-quarters in 1:26.1. Autumn Escapade moved into the lead at the top of the stretch while Jon Win kicked into gear coming on for second.
Dave Miller and Misty Miller also own the winner of 15 races and over $55,000 in purses.
In the $24,000 Mares Preferred Pace, Go On BB made her way to victory lane in rein to Yannick Gingras.
The Ron Burke pupil found the front after the :27.3 opening panel. The odds-on favourite maintained a one-length lead on the field through fractions of :57 and 1:25.2 before putting in a strong :26.2 final quarter to win by over two lengths in 1:51.4.
Southwind Swallow (Mike Vanderkemp) closed well for second and Riley Rose (George Brennan) finished third.
The four-year-old Dontgetinmyway mare notched her 38th career win and lifted her bankroll to over $672,000 for owner Frank Baldachino of Clarksburg, New Jersey.
Tetrick made his second trip to the winner’s circle in the following $24,000 Preferred Trot in rein to Sauce Two K.
Miss Color Chip (Yannick Gingras) was the early pacesetter leading the field to the first quarter pole in :28.1, where the favoured Mystical Ryan (Brian Sears) shot to the lead from the two-hole. Tetrick angled Sauce Two K out from fourth before the half in :56.4 and steadily advanced first-over as the field rolled past three-quarters in 1:25.3. Sauce Two K took command of the field in the stretch and held off a quick-closing Dink Adoo (Dave Miller) by half a length for the win in 1:55 as Mystical Ryan faded to third.
The four-year-old Valley Victor gelding extended his win streak to four for trainer Richard Johnson. The winner of 17 races and over $195,000 in purses is owned by Fabulous Farms LLC of Glen Ridge, New Jersey.
