Versado Victorious In Dover Preferred
Versado, Rustys All In and McClelland were winners of the $35,000 Preferred, $30,000 Delaware Special and $23,000 Open Pace headliners during Thursday’s 15-race card at Dover Downs.
Drawing post one proved to be a plus for Versado in this week’s top pace. Last Thursday, driver Matt Kakaley rallied the Nick Surick-conditioned Dragon Again-Beach Jenny gelding from fifth at the half and closed to within 1-1/4 lengths of the winner. This time the KDM Stables’ six-year-old left fast and took no prisoners en route to a :27.3 final panel and a 1:50.1 victory. Stolen Car was a close second, with Woodstock Hanover picking up third money.
In the $30,000 Del. Special, Rustys All In made it two-in-a-row matching last week’s 1:50.4 triumph. It proved to be one of meet leading driver Corey Callahan’s four wins on the program. The margin of victory was only a nose besting second-place finisher Mustang Art. Nova Artist wound up finishing third. Trained by meet leader Mike Hall of the Doug Lewis Stable, Rustys All In is owned by Claim To Fame LLC and Carter Racing Stable. The seven-year-old son of Western Hanover-Allamerican Nadia has won $425,439 lifetime.
Ken Tucci’s Mcclelland made his first start at Dover a winning one posting a 1:50.3 score in the $23,000 Open. Corey Callahan drove the Cams Card Shark-Enduring Dream gelding to the off-the-pace victory over Catchmecullen A and Mainland Key N. Aaron Lambert trains the winner.
