Jaw Dropper Delivers In Prairie Gold Final
It took a career-best clocking of 1:53.4 for Jaw Dropper to pick up the largest paycheque of his career – a $37,317 haul – in Thursday’s $74,634 Prairie Gold Final for four-year-old horse and gelding pacers at Northlands Park.
Jaw Dropper parked to the quarter pole in :27.3 for trainer/driver Keith Clark before settling into a two-hole trip behind Barona Ferrari, who was sent off as the 2-5 favourite in the wagering.
That rival laid down middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:25 before engaging in a final quarter sprint with Jaw Dropper, who uncorked a :28.3 final frame en route to posting the 1:53.4 decision. Barona Ferrari was more than a length back in second. Third prize was doled out to Red Star Kash.
Ikey Kolias of Calgary, AB holds the papers on the four-year-old son of As Promised, who won for just the second time in 20 starts this season. The gelding’s hefty payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $130,927.
