Georgian Preferred To Just Like Lloyd
Just Like Lloyd toted a two-race winning streak into Wednesday’s assignment in the $15,000 Preferred Trot at Georgian Downs, and the gelding’s final quarter heroics helped him stretch the streak to three for trainer Rene Allard.
With James MacDonald at the controls, Just Like Lloyd got away next to last in the field of eight while Indiana Hall did what he does best – he made the lead and he dished out the speed. The veteran hustled the field through panels of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:29.4 over a track rated ‘good’ with a two-second allowance.
Just Like Lloyd, in the meantime, sat seventh to the mid-way point before tipping off the pylons and picking up cover in the backstretch. MacDonald flipped the switch on the four-year-old son of Like A Prayer-Lindys Bell going to the three-quarter pole, and after making a bold three-wide move Just Like Lloyd used a :29.2 final frame to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Leonidas De Vie in 2:00.1. Indiana Hall faded late and had to settle for the show dough.
Sent off as the 8-5 second choice in the wagering, Just Like Lloyd won for the ninth time this season and for the 16th time in his career. Owned by Lee Barton Enterprises Ltd of Edmonton, AB and Michel Allard of Saint-Esprit, QC, Just Like Lloyd pushed this year’s earnings over $86,000 while boosting his overall cash stash to $126,706.
