Your Beautiful Upsets In Preferred
Her odds were high, her trip was tough and the end result for Your Beautiful was a narrow score in Monday’s $15,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Sent off at odds of 12-1, Your Beautiful got away third for driver Ryan Holliday while Sweet Bet and Roca Rei battled to the quarter pole in :27.3. Roca Rei hit the half in :57.4, but she quickly felt pressure from the first-over Your Beautiful. Roca Rei was still in command at the three-quarter marker in 1:27.3, but the Stephen Gillard-trained Your Beautiful was just one length away.
Your Beautiful’s :30-second closing quarter was more than enough to put away Roca Rei, and it was just enough to fend off the late-rushing Pink Kangaroo whose late bid fell short by a head. Roca Rei held on to finish a lapped-on third in the 1:57.4 affair.
The homebred daughter of Your Nemesis-Beautiful Girl, who is owned by Stephen and Marilyn Gillard of Tavistock, ON, improved this year’s record to 3-2-2 from 14 starts while pushing her seasonal bankroll to $38,400. The sophomore has stashed away more than $180,000 to date.
