Wild Dragon Delivers; Henry Wins Five
The nation’s dash leading reinsman of 2012, Trevor Henry, manufactured a five-win performance during Monday’s 12-race card at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, and one of those wins came in the featured race.
Henry rallied Wild Dragon to a 1:53.4 score in the $15,000 Preferred Pace, and in doing so the pacer found his way to victory lane for the tenth time this year. The four-year-old son of Dragon Again-Wild Helen got away sixth while Thats The Life shot to the lead and marched the field past the quarter pole in :26.4. He led the group to the half in :55.4 before being inhaled on the way to the three-quarter pole.
Royal Outlook, who was first-over at the time, had a narrow lead at the third marker in 1:24.4, but Wild Dragon was going into sprint mode after being treated to some cover in the earlier stages of the mile. Wild Dragon used a :29-second final frame for Henry, who watched the Richard Moreau pupil step to the win by 3-1/2 lengths over Royal Outlook. Classic Call was third.
Gestion Jean Yves Blais of Montreal, QC holds the ownership papers on the pacer who improved his 2012 record to 10-8-7 from 37 trips to the track. The 16-time winner pushed his lifetime earnings over $200,000 with the win.
