Campbell To Re-Write History Saturday?

Driver Marc Campbell is on the verge of making history. He is approaching his own single-season win record heading into this Saturday's 13-dash race program at Red Shores' Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 28-year-old is only two wins away from tying the 122 plateau he set in 2011. A Campbell driving triple on Saturday would set a new record, and with three cards remaining on the season after Saturday, he could continue to increase his totals on the year.

The Winsloe native is booked to drive 10 horses on the program, including Block Party in the afternoon’s feature (Race 12). Meridian Farms Calgary, Alberta and Milton PE own Block Party, who won last week’s showdown in 2:00.1, and they, along with Campbell, are O’Brien Award candidates. Official ballots have been submitted from across the country with the finalists being announced on Tuesday December 18, 2012.

Block Party will meet some stiff contenders with Capitalism (driven by Jason Hughes) being assigned the 5-2 morning line favorite from Post 2. The inside advantage could put the son of Tell All in command early while Balanchine has to maneuver from the eight hole for driver Brodie MacPhee. The Jackie Matheson trainee has been sharp since arriving on the east coast for owners Mike Pollard of Stratford and Joey Gallant of Charlottetown.

First-race post time for CDP's Saturday card is 1:00 p.m.
