Nob Hill High Repeats In Dover Preferred
Nob Hill High made it two-straight wins in the $35,000 Preferred Pace while Mustang Art was not denied in Thursday’s $30,000 Delaware Special at Dover Downs.
David Miller pulled Nob Hill High to the outside on the backstretch and the passed front-pacing Paco Labrook on the final turn and then rolled home with a new lifetime mark of 1:50.1 to take the week’s top pace again. Versado, who couldn’t get into high gear until the stretch, turned in a second-place finish ending a three-race winning streak. This Is Wyatt closed along the passing lane to edge Paco Labrook for third.
Bruce Saunders conditions Nob Hill High for Bob Mondillo and Don Robertson. The altered son of Mcardle-Anniecrombie won for the seventh time this season. He has finished second eight times and 10-times third earning $294,690 in 2012 and $813,653 lifetime.
Ron Pierce took no prisoners en route to a wire-to-wire 1:50.3 triumph in the $30,000 Delaware Special - the second of two handicap feature events - with Mustang Art. Leaving from post one, Pierce shook off Sunshine Superman on the way to a :26-second opening panel and then fought off Big Bad Eli on the way to the top of the stretch. He completed his mile with a :28.3 final quarter to secure his ninth win of the season extending his seasonal earing to $143,445 for owners Max Walton and Greg Papaleo.
Jim MacGuire trains the Artiscape-Paula Seelster gelding now a career winner of $237,042. Runner-up Fancyfreeshark’s two-race win streak ended while Restless Native was third.
Allan Davis enjoyed his biggest win day at the track making the winner’s circle on five occasions.
