Georgian Preferred To Sugar Valley Alley; Big Night For Cirasuola And Coulter
A full field of nine lined up to contest Tuesday evening ’s $15,000 Preferred #2 Trot at Georgian Downs, and a classy veteran did a number on his younger foes in the featured tilt.
Sugar Valley Alley, a 10-year-old son of Big Victory-Sugar Valley Babe, was treated to a two-hole trip by driver Scott Coulter and that was all the edge the gelding needed to get the job done. Coulter tucked his charge into the pocket spot behind Margarita Man parked Imminent Response through fractions of :27.4, :56.1 and 1:25. The battling leaders backed away in the late stages, but Sugar Valley Alley tipped out and fired home in :29.2 to win by 2-1/4 lengths over race favourite Chinnys Wings in 1:54.3. Watkins came on strong to finish third.
Joe Cirasuola trains the 41-time winner for owner Shirley Halas of Northville, Michigan. It’s been a turnaround season for the charismatic campaigner who has put together a 14-for-38 record after going just 2-for-29 last year. He’s put away in excess of $92,000 this year and more than $348,000 to date.
Cirasuola and Coulter joined forces to win a total of three races on the card, and Coulter tacked on a pair of catch-driving wins for other trainers to bring his nightly win total to five. The tandem prevailed with Ruff Me Up (1:52.4) and Beeeyouuuuuu (1:54.2), and Coulter also won with Grace Seelster (1:55.1) for trainer Tim Jacobson and Duke Of Vegas (1:58.4) for conditioner John Bax.
