Put On A Show Cruises To Open Victory
World champion Put On A Show returned to winning form with a 1:51.1 romp in the $50,000 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace at Harrah's Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Leaving from post seven in the afternoon feature with only Royal Cee Cee N (George Brennan) to her outside after that mare won an Open at Yonkers Raceway on Nov. 16, Put On A Show worked her way to command before the :27-second first quarter mark with Brian Sears in the sulky.
The sport's soon-to-be-retired fastest pacing mare carved out middle splits of :54.3 and 1:22.4 with Royal Cee Cee N advancing first over from fourth and Ooh Bad Shark (Ron Pierce) following her cover. But no one could catch Put On A Show as she powered home to win for the 31st time in her $2.44 million career. Ooh Bad Shark finished over a length behind in second while Royal Cee Cee N settled for third this time out.
The daughter of Rocknroll Hanover is trained by Chris Ryder and owned by Craig Henderson, along with Richard and Joanne Young. She has now won half of her 24 starts this year while banking $493,427.
Sent postward as the 3-5 favourite, Put On A Show paid $3.40 to win.
