Track Record For One More Ginny
Monday evenings in late November aren’t normally known for track record-setting performances, but someone forget to send One More Ginny that memo.
The graduate of the OSS program earned a gritty victory in a $27,000 conditioned tilt at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening for Team Baillargeon, and her clocking of 1:53.1 shaved one-fifth of a second off Cedar Dove’s former track standard for three-year-old filly trotters.
One More Ginny got away fourth in Monday’s assignment for driver Mario Baillargeon while race favourite Cold Certified wheeled the field through fractions of :27, :56 and 1:24.1. One More Ginny, in the meantime, launched her first-over bid going to the half and determinately wore down Cold Certified en route to posting the head decision over that foe.
Ben Baillargeon trains the daughter of Angus Hall-Oaklea Ginny for the Kor Stable Limited of Guelph, ON. The runner-up from this year’s OSS Super Final, who was unraced as a freshman, now owns a 5-3-3 record from 19 starts and boasts a bankroll that stands at $162,558.
In other Monday evening trotting news, Undercover Strike returned to action after missing nearly a month of racing and upon returning he never missed a beat for trainer Tony O’Sullivan. The four-year-old son of Striking Sahbra-Under The Pines, who was making his debut on Lasix, came first-over in the final half of the $38,000 Preferred event and won by a length in 1:53.4 for driver Doug McNair. Groom Hanover, who set all the speed, was a length in arrears at odds of 73-1. Zeus Lightning rounded out the Triactor ticket.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, Undercover Strike is now undefeated in four tries since being purchased privately by owner Frank Bellino of Bronxville, NY. It was the 12-time winner’s fifth consecutive victory and his 11th triumph of the season. He’s just short of $250,000 in lifetime earnings.
Define The World, a career winner in excess of $1.6 million, also visited victory lane on Monday evening for trainer Bax and owner/breeder Al Libfeld of Pickering, ON. The seven-year-old son of Duke Of York-Venice Holiday was marched to the lead in his $20,000 conditioned assignment by driver Paul MacDonell, and after whacking out splits of :27.2, :56.1 and 1:24.3 the gelding used a :29.4 kicker to win in 1:54.2.
It was the third win of the year and the 35th lifetime tally for the charismatic campaigner who was let go at odds of 9-1.
