Button Up Doubles Up At The Raceway
Veteran pacer Button Up erupted for a 30-1 shocker in last week’s $15,000 Preferred Pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District, and it was more of the same for the charismatic campaigner in Monday’s featured tilt.
Sent off at odds of 11-1, Button Up front-stepped through fractions of :27.2, :57.4 and 1:26.2 as per the orders of driver Mike Horner before using a :30.2 closing panel to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Dreamfair Kovu in 1:56.4. Mach It Big, who did the first-over work, held on gamely to finish third.
Mark Horner trains the nine-year-old son of Northern Luck-Better Butter for the Sure Gain Stable of St. Marys, ON. The victory improved the OSS grad’s 2012 record to 5-13-10 from 38 starts while pushing his seasonal bankroll to $87,568. The 36-time winner has stashed away more than $721,000 to date.
