GEs Alex Tops Rosecroft Mares
On a cool, windy 37 degree night, Bernard and Gary Ewing’s GEs Alex unleashed the card's fastest final quarter while closing from last to win the weekly Fillies and Mares Winners Over Pace at Rosecroft Raceway on Saturday evening.
Driven by Mark Gray, GEs Alex sat patiently through the first three-quarters of a mile (:27.2, :57, and 1:25.2) before erupting with pace on the grandstand side with a final quarter of :28.1 to score in 1:54.3.
Since picking up the catch-drive, Gray has had two wins and a third in three starts aboard GEs Alex. The win was the 10th of GEs Alex’s career and vaulted the eight-year-old Misfit mare's bankroll over the $50,000 mark.
In other action, driver-trainer Alvin Lineweaver won his first race of the meet after several close finishes. Lineweaver is 74 years old and competes on a weekly basis with a small stable at Rosecroft.
