Pompano Hat Trick For Bay Girl
Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park is about thirty miles north of world-famous Biscayne Bay in Miami, but the five-eighths mile oval has its own Bay Girl who in just three weeks has taken the track by storm.
Bay Girl, a five-year-old daughter of Royal Mattjesty, is three-for-three in the weekly Fillies and Mares Open Pace since bringing her act from Vernon Downs to Florida at the beginning of November.
The most recent victory on Monday night was the ninth of the season for owner Michael Sergi's fine mare, and it pushed her 2012 earnings to $103,448. Rick Plano took over the training and driving of Bay Girl in mid-September and now has four wins, two seconds and a third in his first seven starts with her.
Driver Kevin Wallis, a former Pompano Park driving champion, is making a triumphant return to South Florida after being absent for the last several years. The blue and yellow-clad 56-year-old reinsman notched a hat trick on the Monday card winning with Somewhere Fast for trainer Noreen Paulin, Feel Like A Gator for conditioner Jim Langley and Say Uh Huh for trainer Willis Clark. The three wins give Wallis a total of 28 and push his UDRS to over .350 in less than a month since his return to Florida for the winter months.
Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park has added Tuesdays to its scheduled effective Tuesday, November 20. Post time is 7:05 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday through the winter months.
