Pompano Open To Prairie Big John
Prairie Big John and driver Tom Sells turned the table on Credit Balance at Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park on Wednesday night, reversing the one-two order of finish from last week in the $10,000 Open Trot.
Credit Balance was able to make the front easily and cut all the fractions, but Prairie Big John pulled from fourth at the halfway point and closed ground steadily the rest of the way, collaring the pacesetter in deep stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.1. Spring Goal (Rick Plano) and Wesleys Fortune (Rob Hoffman) were just another three-quarters of a length back in third and fourth respectively.
It was the sixth seasonal triumph for the winner who is owned by trainer Mike Deters in partnership with Laurie Poulin and Fred Morosini. The four-year-old Florida-bred gelding now has career earnings of $71,066.
Sells also won with another Deters stablemate, Super Lotto, who captured a $5,300 conditioned trot event in 1:57.4, beating Mr Jim Dandy (Brian Connor) and Good Luck Penny (Jim McDonald).
Kevin Wallis had the only other driving double on the program, scoring with the trotter Gianna and the pacer Single Best.
Beginning next week, Isle Casino Racing Pompano Park adds live racing every Tuesday night to its calendar. The schedule throughout the winter months will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday nights with post times at 7:05 p.m.
