Kaneoka Wins Meadows' Pink Out Trot
Rachel Kaneoka and Karat Winner roared through the stretch Wednesday to capture a special “Pink Out” trot featuring all female drivers that helped The Meadows and The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association (MSOA) raise money for breast cancer awareness.
Kaneoka and Karat Winner followed the first-over cover of Cherie Keith (Panz Ferdinand) before peeling off in the lane to triumph in 2:01.1 over a sloppy surface. Naquel Harvey (AJ Niko Doro) rallied for place, three-quarters of a length back, while Danita Harvey (Mr Cruise) saved show. Scott U’ren trains the winner, a six-year-old daughter of American Winner-Cherry Tree Ruby, for Debbie U’ren.
In a companion trot featuring all male drivers, Tony Hall and Sand Piper scored with a sustained first-over move.
The 1-2 favourite notched his third straight victory by wearing down Mike Wilder (Win You Over) and prevailing by four and three-quarter lengths in 1:59.3. Brian Zendt (Desired Outcome) was third. Bruce Riegle conditions the three-year-old daughter of American Winner-Elite Hanover for lessee Bob Key.
The Meadows and the MSOA donated their pari-mutuel commissions from the special races to the Magee Women’s Hospital Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Pittsburgh, a partnership the organizations have nurtured for a number of years. Participating drivers also greeted fans before the card.
