Prairie Gold Elim Winners Show Promise
A pair of four-year-old pacing mares by As Promised prevailed in their respective $15,000 Prairie Gold eliminations on Friday at Northlands Park.
First away was Judgement Day (Mark Bradley) leading the field to the first quarter pole in :29.2 where trainer/driver Gerry Hudon tipped Blue Star Flight out from fifth and advanced on the pacesetter through middle panels of :58.4 and 1:27.3. With a final push in the stretch, the heavy 3-5 favourite poked a head in front of Judgement Day at the wire winning the first elim in 1:57.4. Promise I Ll Go (John Chappell) finished third and Do The Math (Bill Tainsh, Jr.) was fourth.
Blue Star Flight’s second win of the year and sixth in her career lifted her lifetime earnings to $76,786. She is owned by Hudon and Bill Boden of Vancouver, B.C.
The victory was one of three on the card for Hudon, who picked up wins with Kiawah (1:55.1) in Race 9 and Nazko Finally (1:58.4) in Race 10. The resident of Edmonton, Alberta has recorded 69 wins this season and 1,507 in his career.
In the second Prairie Gold elimination, Kg Mist romped to a six length score for trainer/driver Rod Hennessy in 1:55.
Leaving from Post 2, the 2-5 favourite went straight to the front and carved out fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:26.3 before sprinting home in :28.2 to win.
Red Star Gilda (Kelly Hoerdt) rode the pocket to finish second and Kipanator (Jeff Stone) finished third. Charter Flight (Jack Beelby) finished fourth.
The winner of $113,736 in lifetime earnings, who is owned by Hennessy and Lorne Duffield of Edmonton, Alta., scored her fourth win of the season and sixth of her career.
The top four finishers from each elimination will advance to next week's final.
Keith Clark also scored a training triple on the night bringing his seasonal total to 93. In his career, the resident of De Winton, Alberta has visited the winner's circle a total of 3,203 times. Clark scored wins with Barossa (1:55) in Race 1 and Bluebird Corvette (1:56.4) in Race 2. Cigar Hall also prevailed for Clark, picking up his third straight win and lowering his lifetime mark (1:54.2) in Race 7.
