Block Party Upsets In CDP Feature
Block Party, with Jason Hughes in the bike, was able to chase down the pacesetting General Luckypercy to win Thursday’s $2,200 Fillies & Mares Open at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
General Luckypercy led the group through fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:28.3 before getting hauled down in the closing strides by Block Party who drew clear to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:58.2. General Luckypercy was a solid runner-up behind the 8-1 upsetter, with third prize going to Dreaming.
The four-year-old daughter of Western Terror-Wipethatsmileoff is trained by Darren Trainer for owners Bill Andrew of Calgary, AB, Brian Andrew of Milton Station, PE and Blake Andrew of Montreal, QC.
Birthday boy Brodie MacPhee guided Waiting On A Woman to his fourth straight victory in the evening’s trot class in 2:01.3. Mitchell and David Tierney of Cornwall, PE owns the trotter who defeated Caliban Hanover and Saulsbrook Balance.
The fastest mile of the night went to Brief Bliss with co-owner-trainer Stephen Quinn in the bike. Quinn mapped out the winning trip of 1:56.1 for his co- owner John Quinn of Charlottetown, PE.
Wade Sorrie, Brodie MacPhee, Kenny Arsenault and Jason Hughes recorded driving doubles on the program.
Racing returns Saturday at 6 p.m. for the final evening card of the season. Red Shores Summerside hosts its final Sunday afternoon program at 1 p.m.
