Hall of Famer Dave Palone, who was injured in a five-horse accident in Monday’s tenth race at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, was released from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the spill, Palone was transported directly to the hospital by helicopter. Upon further examination, in which the results from X-rays and other tests came back normal, doctors decided to keep him overnight Monday as a precaution.

“We’re very lucky that he wasn’t hurt seriously,” said his wife Bethann Palone late Tuesday afternoon. “I just took him home from the hospital and he’s resting. He’s a little sore right now, so it’s day to day, but he’ll be back soon.”

Driver Mike Wilder, who was treated and released Monday night at Allegheny General Hospital with a sprained wrist and bruised ribs, returned to drive in 14 of 16 races at the Meadows on Tuesday.

The other three drivers, drivers Brett Miller, Todd Cummings and Mike Dowdall, as well as the five horses involved, were not seriously injured.
