Indiana Downs Hosts ISS Finals
Always About Katey, Natural Herbie and River Sport were the big winners in their respective $200,000 Indiana Sire Stakes Gold Finals held Saturday night (Oct. 20) at Indiana Downs.
Always About Katey repeated as ISS Gold final winner with a 1:53.3 score over Hoosier Chinna and Mistys Chip.
Pete Wrenn drove the two-year-old Always A Virgin-Topville Cyberwave filly for trainer Roger Welch and co-owners William DeLong, Pat DeLong and Katey McClymot. Merle Yoder bred the champion.
Natural Herbie won the $200,000 final for two-year-old colt trotters in 1:59 over Sweet Justice and Sand Royal Blu.
A gelding by Here Comes Herbie-Lianearl, Natural Herbie is owned, trained and driven by Verlin Yoder. John Schmucker bred the champion.
River Sport won the final for freshman colt pacers in 1:51.3 over Right Touch and Mister Virgin.
Rick Farrington drove River Sport, a Red River Hanover-Sportstown Legacy gelding, for trainer Brian Hauck of Haucks Racing Stables. Kenneth Reway bred the champion.
Dontget Me Started won the $40,000 Silver final for two-year-old filly pacers in 1:55.3. The Dontgetinmyway-Bewitching Grin filly was driven by Ed Hensley for trainer Joe Putnam and co-owners Charles Stillings, Dean Ehrgott and Randy Williams.
Crocodile Canyon won the $40,000 Silver final for two-year-old colt pacers in 1:54.1. The Canyon Wind-Hurrikanenancylynn was driven by Trace Tetrick for trainer/co-owner Rod Lorenzo and Ciro Gentile.
The undercard featured a $10,000 Trotting Under Saddle race on the inner turf course. Tina Duer rode Chinese Cuisine to a 2:01 win for the mile over Felipe Makaay (Kristin Shetler), NF Soaring (Rachel Matthews), Dakota Dancer (Karen Isbell) and Rock With It (Tina Sundqvist).
