Report: OLG Reaches Host Municipality Agreement
It has been reported that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. has reached an agreement with municipalities which play host to facilities which feature slot-machine gaming.
Details are few at this time, but according to a brief article on AM 920 CKNX, Hanover Mayor Kathi Maskell has been cited as saying that the agreement will see host municipalities receive an additional quarter per cent of gaming revenue.
The increase would push host municipalities' overall take of slots gaming up to 5.25 per cent.
The report has also cited Maskell as saying that she now hopes the Ontario Government will do what it takes to ensure horse racing remains in Hanover.

Bargaining 101. Divide the entities involved and settle with one group at a time. Next the tracks, if they don't already know....as they have been too quiet. Then horsemen will get scraps take it or leave it!

"Maskell says she's now hopeful the provincial government will do what it takes to ensure horse racing continues in Hanover." We have to wait and see what the OMAFRA panel recommends. I hear we may even hear something Friday, otherwise last I heard it will be in 2-3 weeks. Cabinet is still sitting and it will be reviewed ASAP. Think positive.... I know it has been hard for us all. Something good has to come out of this all.

So the municipalities are willing to sell out their tracks for an extra .25% from gambling in their area but not necessarily from SAR as I interpret the deal. This would apply to any alternative site such as a new casino if OLG wanted one, resulting in the closure of the local track. The municipality of Hanover wants racing to be protected but they say nothing about the continuation of SAR just hoping for some other program of assistance for racing from the Ontario government.
Looks like this is the gamebreaker. Perhaps someone should add up the negatives of shutting down the tracks versus the extra .25% of pottage.

The estimated profit on a single black jack table is 10 million $ a year.
Municipalities are making more now at 5% with slots only then 5.25% in the future with no revenue from table games. The OLG are not stupid and are fully aware of this.
It's a sucker deal.
These people better not get
These people better not get into these racetracks unless the horsemen get a deal!!!! I will have at least one horse there who likes kicking!! Just saying
Why did Hanover raceway not
Why did Hanover raceway not force the issue & ask the OLG to make it's % big enough to support racing . If all tracks had of stood by the racing industry in the begining we would have had this problem solved already. They all should have shut the doors to the tracks & slots months ago. Then the government would have listened. It is only the Racing Industry and all of it's 60,000 employees that are going to suffer both financially & mentally as they see their livelyhoods disappear and their horses come to a very sad demise. This is heart breaking.

So they have reached agreement with municipalities. Now what about the tracks and horsemen? Now we need to put our efforts on Mr Duncan whom is the only Minister to say he is interested in the leadership.
