Put On A Show Enters Open Pace

It all comes down to the Breeders Crown, and for the connections of world champion Put On A Show it all comes down to what could be their one shot at harness racing history.

On Tuesday morning, Richard Young told Trot Insider that 2012's fastest aged pacer Put On A Show will skip the Open Mare Pace to race against the boys in the 2012 Breeders Crown Open Pace. Young feels that with aged pacer Betterthancheddar as a question mark heading into the race, it's a wide-open event without a clear standout.

The five-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover has won 30 of her 45 races while banking over $2.4 million for trainer Chris Ryder and owners Craig Henderson and Richard and Joanne Young. Her 1:47.3 race record makes her the fastest aged female pacer of all time and her $1.94 million combined purses for her two- and three-year-old campaigns set the record for a filly pacer.

According to Young, the decision to race "Show" at six has yet to be determined. By entering the mare against the boys in the 2012 Breeders Crown, Young and Co. will have a better idea on how competitive Put On A Show will be in the open pacing events in 2013 if she races next year.

Put On A Show is one of ten horses entered in the 2012 Open Pace, set for Saturday, October 27 at Woodbine Racetrack. The full fields will be announced on Tuesday afternoon.
