World Record For 'Graduate' In Jugette Heat
Mickey Burke trainee Western
Graduate came ready to race in the first heat/second division of the
Jugette Wednesday afternoon, as the daughter of Western Hanover equaled
the stakes, track and World Record of 1:51.2 with pilot Yannick Gingras.
Bred by London, Ontario
resident Patrick Ryan, Western Graduate sat off the early pace as
Isabella Blue Chip (David Miller) cut the fractions in :26.4, :55.2 and
1:23.1.
Gingras had the filly fired up
when he asked, though, as Western Graduate went into high gear, came
three-wide off the final turn and breezed by the wire in the World
Record time.
"She was just kind of hanging
out there three-wide when I moved her at first but once she got going
around the last turn she paced by David [driver David Miller with
Isabella Blue Chip] pretty easy," said driver Gingras.
Elusive Prey and pilot George
Brennan finished second, while Me And My Baby (Dave Palone) finished
third. Isabella Blue Chip hung on for fourth.
"She's going to leave today,"
Gingras said when asked whether Western Graduate would be able to leave
if she draws the rail for the second heat.
Western Graduate's victory
pushed her seasonal record to 5-5-1 from 15 starts for owners Sylvia
Burke, Thomas Cherichello, George Leon and Lawrence Karr.
