Junebugs Baby Wins Campbell Memorial
Sophomore colt Junebugs Baby advanced first over to defeat a field of older pacers in the $2,500 Neil J. Campbell Memorial Pace on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs.
With 67-year-old Dominion, N.S. trainer Fraser Turnbull aboard, Atlantic Breeders Crown runner-up Junebugs Baby advanced first over from fourth through fractions of :28.4, :58.4, and 1:28 en route to victory in 1:58.2. He prevailed by a quarter length over J N J and Romanie Ranger, who finished second in a dead-heat, with pacesetter Truth Or Dare three and three-quarter lengths behind.
The 3-2 favourite paid $5.30 to win. In 13 sophomore starts, Junebugs Baby has finished no worse than second (nine wins) to earn $45,204.
Turnbull also bred and co-owns the Western Paradise-Carols June Bug colt with John Turnbull Jr. The horse and its connections were featured on the cover and profiled in the August edition of Trot Magazine.
