Even though he was parked to the half by the 3-5 favourite in Monday’s $130,000 OSS Gold Series Final at Woodbine Racetrack, Prestidigitator summoned up all of his toughness and talent to go home a winner in an impressive clocking of 1:53.3.

The strapping son of Kadabra-Shesa Priority stepped forward from Post 8 when the gate sped away, but others were quicker in the early going including race favourite Knows Nothing. The public’s choice was hustled to the top by Jody Jamieson, and together they led the group to the quarter pole in :27.3. Prestidigitator remained parked around the first turn, and he was stretched out by Knows Nothing before being released to the lead at the mid-way point in :56.1.

Filion kept his charge rolling going into the final turn, and before long Knows Nothing was back out and pressing the leader to the three-quarter pole in 1:25.2. Prestidigitator was up to the challenge, however, and his :28.1 closing quarter was more than enough to earn him the win in 1:53.3. Knows Nothing was 1-1/4 lengths back in second, with Cold Certified a well-beaten third.

Dustin Jones trains the nine-time winner for Ecurie Synergie of Montreal, QC. With the victory the colt now owns a 5-1-4 record from 14 starts this season. The $65,000 payday puts this year’s earnings just under $350,000. He’s banked $670,237 to date.
