On Thursday, October 4, the connections of 13 of the top trotters in training entered their charges to contest the 2012 Kentucky Futurity, which will be raced Sunday, October 7 at the Red Mile in Lexington, Ky.

The first heat will feature a pair of divisions. The top five finishers from each of the opening-heat divisions will advance to the second heat. The winner of the Kentucky Futurity has to win two heats. Therefore, if a first-heat winner does not prove victorious in the second heat, the trio of preliminary-heat winners will face off in a third-heat raceoff.

The 2012 Kentucky Futurity is the 120th edition of the historic stakes event for three-year-old trotting colts.
